Like Puckered Lips

MacLaren Street, across from Dundonald Park, Ottawa.
I am constantly amazed at all the possible configurations of appendages and convoluted membranes they use to attract bees and hornets and flies to encourage pollination. If you look close enough to the insides of flowers, they almost look like alien creatures.

  • The variation is usually to suit specific insects or direct them to particular parts of the plant.

    Yes, fascinating, isn't it? Almost like how specific antibodies can deactivate specific viruses because of their exact shape and composition; or the specificity of neurotransmitters and their receptors. Nature is amazing!
